Denver International Airport to get the Greenest Parking structure ever.

There might not be a “Miss Green Parking Structure” pageant, but if there was, the winner would be Denver’s recently-announced Canopy Airport Parking system slated to open in November.  The garage was designed in partnership with BMW DesignworksUSA to support complimentary electric vehicle charging to encourage use of EVs in the near-term future.  The so-called “Juice Bar” charging system will be compatible with every original-equipment electric vehicle sold in the US.  The extensive parking system is located at 8100 Tower Road, and is also home to a massive, climate-controlled indoor valet garage that reduces exposure to the elements in poor weather.  Best yet, the whole structure will be LEED Gold certified, and will feature a hybrid and natural gas-powered shuttle fleet to usher customers to and from the airport terminal.

  1. I watched the video on Canopy parking, it said that 35% of the building structure is made out of recycled cars. The pricing seems to be around the same as other parking at the airport, but with the free “juice bars”, hopefully that will give more incentives for people to drive environmentally friendly cars. Also the fact that their bus transportation is either hybrid, natural gas, or biodiesel makes the transport to the airport even more uplifting, and they pick you up directly at your car and take you to your airline, whereas other parking lots, you have to park far away and lug all of you luggage to the shuttle. It sounds great, and I would be willing to pay the rate knowing that it is better for the environment, I will have to check it out on my next trip.
